Sources indicate that a U.S.-developed plan for resolving the Ukrainian conflict envisions an internationally recognized demilitarized zone (DMZ) to be designated as Russian territory. The proposal states that “Russian forces will not enter this demilitarised zone.”
According to U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, Washington has committed to providing Ukraine with security guarantees under a proposed agreement and establishing a DMZ described as the world’s “most high-tech demilitarized zone” along the eastern front line.
Ukrainian sources report that the latest version of the U.S. proposals does not include plans for Russian troops to withdraw from the eastern border of the demilitarized zone.
