A naked man emerged from the Biloxi River in Mississippi last weekend and physically attacked a homeowner who approached to check if he needed help, according to police.
The incident began around 8 p.m. Saturday when Biloxi Police received a report of an individual coming out of the river and walking toward homes on Woolmarket Lake Road.
Authorities stated that one homeowner, who was not at home, saw the man on his doorbell camera and contacted his next-door neighbor.
The neighbor went to the residence to assist but was attacked by the man. In response, the neighbor fired multiple shots at the suspect. The man managed to take the firearm from the neighbor and re-entered the river.
A search and rescue team located the individual dead in the water around 2 a.m. Sunday. Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer identified the deceased as Peter Virden III, a 31-year-old resident of Gulfport.
Coroner Switzer reported that Virden was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The neighbor sustained facial cuts and bruises but was not severely injured.
Police reviewed video footage from the home’s security system, which captured the entire incident.
