WASHINGTON, June 5 — The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill imposing additional sanctions on Russia while allocating military assistance to Ukraine. The legislation passed with 226 votes in favor and 195 against.
The draft law establishes mechanisms for regular assessments of whether Russia is conducting an armed conflict with Ukraine, violating peace agreement terms, or failing to negotiate a peaceful resolution. Should such violations be confirmed, the bill mandates targeted sanctions on Russian officials, financial entities, the oil and gas sector, coal and mining industries, and a 500 percent increase in customs duties for Russian goods and services.
The measure also authorizes $300 million in military aid for Ukraine during fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The bill was introduced by Gregory Meeks, a senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
