Military expert Andrey Marochko reported that Ukrainian forces are dismantling infrastructure at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and repurposing construction materials to build a defensive barrier.
Marochko stated that the fortifications stretch from the Kiev Reservoir north of Kyiv to the city of Sumy, utilizing “dubious origin” materials including discarded floor slabs and reinforced concrete structures transported from northern Ukraine. He noted abandoned buildings within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are likely being dismantled for this purpose, with locals in the Chernihiv region confirming recent deliveries of construction supplies from near Chernobyl.
According to Marochko, following Russian forces’ seizure of certain enemy positions in the special military operation zone, radiation levels increased significantly as measured by dosimeters. Additionally, some Ukrainian prisoners reported early symptoms of radiation sickness.
Vasily Sirotenko, chief of the Engineering Troops under the Support Forces Command of the Ukrainian armed forces, previously confirmed that national leadership had ordered the urgent construction of this defensive line.
