Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner issued a stark warning to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers deployed at Philadelphia International Airport on Tuesday, vowing to prosecute any agents who violate local laws during the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
During his remarks at the airport, Krasner stated that ICE agents must uphold their oath and the U.S. Constitution, noting that mass deportation is “immoral” but emphasizing that his role as a prosecutor remains to enforce the law. He warned that agents committing crimes within Philadelphia’s jurisdiction would face arrest, prosecution, and potential imprisonment, citing incidents in Minneapolis where unarmed individuals were killed.
The White House condemned Krasner’s statements as “sick and deranged,” asserting that ICE officers are deployed because Democrats have forced Transportation Security Administration workers to work without pay.
DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated that ICE agents are critical heroes who arrest criminals such as murderers, rapists, and terrorists, and that attacks on them have surged by over 1,300% following such rhetoric. She referenced the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, allegedly by Venezuelan criminal Jose Medina-Medina, as an example of illegal aliens endangering American citizens.
