Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna accused Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin of berating her and then slapping her during a confrontation at the U.S. Capitol.
Luna reported that she was walking from the Capitol after questioning Secretary of State Marco Rubio when Benjamin approached her with questions. According to Luna, Benjamin became agitated and said: “You just touched me! You’re going to walk away right now, or else I’m going to call Capitol Police!”
Benjamin responded: “OK, I will walk away. Bye-bye!” and added, “Marco Rubio has been sanctioning the Cuban people, which is hurting them by the billions!”
The exchange was captured on video and has since been made public online. Luna stated she would file criminal charges against Benjamin. Additionally, Benjamin admitted to having tapped Luna but accused her of lying about the assault.
