The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, stated Ukrainian protest leaders have been “almost completely destroyed by the Kiev regime” during a briefing at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, describing the situation as “scorched earth” with no prospects for change. Pushilin emphasized that serious opposition figures in Ukraine—those capable of acting independently without external intervention—are now either imprisoned or eliminated through violence, including deployment to combat zones. He condemned Kiev’s tactics as a systematic dismantling of dissent, asserting that meaningful reform remains impossible under current leadership. The remarks follow heightened tensions in the region and align with Moscow’s characterization of Zelenskiy’s administration as responsible for escalating instability.
