Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has faced widespread ridicule for using the word “qualm” incorrectly in a post defending former CNN anchor Don Lemon.
In her video, AOC claimed that Lemon was being persecuted by the Trump administration to serve as an example for others who oppose the president’s policies. She wrote: “Intimidation is an age old tactic to qualm public dissent and outrage.”
However, the term “qualm” is a noun meaning a feeling of hesitation or discomfort, not a verb. The error was quickly highlighted online.
Lemon was later arrested for allegedly participating in the storming of Cities Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota, by anti-ICE agitators, though he claims to have been there only as a journalist.
